We met Jolanda and Bé in February 2012 at Deep Blue View, Bonaire, and stayed in contact through Facebook ever since. Last year we had a lovely afternoon with them at the Onze Lieve Vrouw Plein terraces in our home town Maastricht. It must have been around that time that we found it that going to Antarctica was a shared dream. They have planned a big South America trip, which is topped off by an Antarctica trip (they will be on the M/V Ushuaia, on the Weddell Sea Quest), arriving back in Ushuaia just a week and a bit before we head out if I am not mistaken.

To the end of the world ...
The dream has always been there. Sometimes big and predominant. Sometimes small and dormant. But since I was a little boy nature caught my attention. And so did the polar areas. After having been to Svalbard the dream of doing the ultimate, once in a lifetime, trip resurfaced. Dreaming and thinking about it since. Understanding that my wife, Petra, has the same feelings. Starting the planning. Selecting. Researching. We are now at the point that we are very close to making a decision. From what I can say now it will be below trip. Once booked I will confirm.

The trip is called "Antarctica - Polar Circle" [Crossing the Polar Circle], on the Oceanwide Expeditions' MV Plancius.
Trip date: February 16th to 27th, 2020
This Polar Circle and Antarctic Peninsula cruise passes through waters travelled by Humpback, Minke and Fin whales. Anchoring in various spots around the region, the expedition offers the chance to hike, kayak, and dive in the iceberg-heavy waters.
Day 1: End of the world, start of a journey
Your voyage begins where the world drops off. Ushuaia, Argentina, reputed to be the southernmost city on the planet, is located on the far southern tip of South America. Starting in the afternoon, you embark from this small resort town on Tierra del Fuego, nicknamed “The End of the World,” and sail the mountain-fringed Beagle Channel for the remainder of the evening.
Day 2 - 3: Path of the polar explorers
Over the next two days on the Drake Passage, you enjoy some of the same experiences encountered by the great polar explorers who first charted these regions: cool salt breezes, rolling seas, maybe even a fin whale spouting up sea spray. After passing the Antarctic Convergence – Antarctica’s natural boundary, formed when north-flowing cold waters collide with warmer sub-Antarctic seas – you are in the circum-Antarctic upwelling zone. Not only does the marine life change, the avian life changes too. Wandering albatrosses, grey-headed albatrosses, black-browed albatrosses, light-mantled sooty albatrosses, cape pigeons, southern fulmars, Wilson’s storm petrels, blue petrels, and Antarctic petrels are a few of the birds you might see.
Day 4 - 9: Sights of late summer Antarctica
Options for Antarctic Peninsula activities are many, and no less great during the late summer. Humpback whales are prolific in this region, gorging themselves on krill before their migration north. The penguin chicks are also fledging, stirring up activity on the beaches while sleek leopard seals lie in wait, poised to attack the less fortunate ones.
Sites for your Antarctic adventures may include:
Livingston Island – Here you find a wide variety of gentoo and chinstrap penguins on Hannah Point, as well as southern giant petrels and elephant seals hauling out onto the beach.
Deception Island – Actually a subducted crater, this island opens into the sea and creates a natural harbor for the ship. Hot springs, an abandoned whaling station, and multiple bird species – cape petrels, kelp gulls, brown and south polar skuas, and Antarctic terns – can be seen here. Wilson’s storm petrels and black-bellied storm petrels also nest in the ruins of the whaling station in Whalers Bay.
Cuverville Island – A small precipitous island nestled between the mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula and Rongé Island, Cuverville houses a large colony of gentoo penguins and breeding pairs of brown skuas.
Neko Harbour – An epic landscape of mammoth glaciers and endless wind-carved snow, Neko Harbour offers opportunities for a Zodiac cruise and landing that afford the closest views of the surrounding alpine peaks. You might also be able to set foot on the continent here.
Paradise Bay – You could take a Zodiac cruise in these sprawling, ice-flecked waters, where you have a good chance of seeing humpback and minke whales.
Pléneau & Petermann Islands – If the ice allows it, you may sail through the Lemaire Channel in search of Adélie penguins and blue-eyed shags. There’s also a good chance you’ll encounter humpback and minke whales as well as leopard seals.
Crystal Sound – Your journey takes you south along the Argentine Islands to this ice-packed body of water, and from here across the Polar Circle in the morning.
Detaille Island – You may make a landing at an abandoned British research station here, taking in the island’s lofty mountains and imposing glaciers.
Fish Islands – Further north you encounter one of the southernmost Adélie penguin and blue-eyed shag colonies in the Antarctic Peninsula.
Melchior Islands – These islands offer a beautiful landscape rich with icebergs. Leopard seals, crabeater seals, and whales are found here, and there are excellent opportunities for kayaking and diving.
Conditions on the Drake Passage determine the exact time of departure.
Day 10 - 11: Familiar seas, familiar friends
Your return voyage is far from lonely. While crossing the Drake, you’re again greeted by the vast array of seabirds remembered from the passage south. But they seem a little more familiar to you now, and you to them.
Day 12: There and back again
Every adventure, no matter how grand, must eventually come to an end. It’s now time to disembark in Ushuaia, but with memories that will accompany you wherever your next adventure lies.

Queen's Garden Saba - Cancelled
We had been looking at Saba before. Even contacted this beautiful hotel before for an offer. Than, early this year, we decided to go there. Queen's Garden Resort & Spa, run by a Dutch couple. Hidde and Claire. We booked an 11 nights stay in a Superior Suite, including 6 days of diving (2-Tank in the morning incl. lunch). Claire even tossed in a 3 course dinner in their romantic birds nest for Petra's birthday. A wonderful offer we couldn't resist.
And then Irma came. The category 5+ hurricane damaged Saba. But more important, destroyed Sint Maarten. As there was some time between this horrible event and our stay, we kept track of the progress in rebuilding Saba and its connections with Sint Maarten.
It all looked to go the right way. Sint Maarten airport was re-opened for international flights. Winair, connecting Saba to Sint Maarten, was back in operation. And the hotel reported "bruised but okay" and reopened soon after.
However, due to the devastation of Sint Maarten, international connections were being re-routed. First KLM announced they would only fly on specific days, with some connecting through Curaçao. This created two issues for us:
Unfortunately also Air France started to re-route and cancelled direct flights to Sint Maarten. They only had the option Amsterdan - flight to - Charles de Gaulle Paris → Charles de Gaulle - bus/train - Orly Paris → Paris - flight - Guadeloupe → Guadeloupe - flight - Sint Maarten ... to arrive a day early without any accommodation on Sint Maarten.
This left us with only one reasonable option: Cancel the trip to Saba.
As alternative we have booked our old friend Bonaire (we also looked at Curaçao, but we'd just been there ... twice). This time at a new location: Bamboo Bali. Looking forward to go there next week.
In the meantime we also couldn't resist the sale of the Aggressor fleet (34% off). We have never been on a liveaboard and always had millions of excuses not to go, but the call of the Maldives, the huge discount and the possibility to dive new places - we are doing a ten day Male to Addu trip - convinced us to jump in the adventure and just do it. This adventure is for early next year.

South Ari Atoll (Alif Dhaal-atol )
Our last trip to the Maldives (Filitheyo) was a mix of very good and "could be better" experiences. The holiday in it self was very good, the diving however, could have been better. Some years ago we went to another part of the Maldives, where the diving was also very good: Vakarufalhi in the South Ari Atoll. Unfortunately Vakarufalhi had recently been upgraded (so became a lot more expensive) and is only on the market in Italy and Switzerland these days.
As we wanted to go back to the Maldives for our next Diving Holiday we therefore tried to find an alternative Island in the same area. It took us quite some time, but finally we decided for Vilamendhoo.
This Island used to be known as a "Divers Paradise", but didn't have a realy good reputation when comes to accomodation. Luckily also this Island is currently being upgraded (after an owner change). But different than Vakarufalhi it stays within an acceptable price range. Also the fact that its sister Island, Meeru, has very good reviews on the web. And knowing that the new acomodation would look a lot like Meeru. Made us decide to spend our next Diving Holiday there.
We'll post the experience on this blog on our return ....... somewhere in 2011. We can't wait to go!
As we wanted to go back to the Maldives for our next Diving Holiday we therefore tried to find an alternative Island in the same area. It took us quite some time, but finally we decided for Vilamendhoo.

Tanzania 'Ultimate African wilderness'

Looking back on how much we liked watching the animals in India, and thinking back of Kenia, we couldn't stop dreaming of going back to Africa. After a long search we found below trip proposal (with Untamed Wildlife Safaris).

Tanzania is known for the famous Mount Kilimanjaro and Serengeti game parks and the Ngorongoro Crater. But Tanzania has much more! High mountains with unique vegetation zones, vast savannah's with large numbers of wild animals, colorful tribal culture with a fascinating and vast sandy beaches bordered by palm trees. Few other African countries see such a wide variety of attractions, a unique combination for culture and nature lovers.
Ruaha National Park.
Ruaha N.P. is a unique piece of Africa, rugged and unspoilt, situated between the rivers Njombe and Ruaha. Flora and fauna of Eastern and Southern Africa meet here, resulting in spectacular scenery and exceptional wildlife species. The park is powered by the Ruaha River, which winds its way between jagged rock formations, forests and savannah landscapes with acacia and baobab trees. This lifeline exerts great attraction to all kinds of game.

Selous Game Reserve
In southern Tanzania is the Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve in Africa. This is Africa at its wildest! The reserve was declared a world heritage. Countless elephants and predators are located along the banks of the Rufiji River, which teems with hippos and crocodiles. The trees along the river seem to be alive due to the many birds. Selous G.R. is one of the few parks in Africa where boat trips can be made, an absolute experience when you move up stream along bathing elephants, stared at by dozens of hippos.

North and south of the capital Dar es Salaam are beautiful sandy beaches, surrounded by palm trees on an azure ocean. An ideal setting for an unforgettable safari to be closed with a few relaxing days at sea.

Day 1 Arrival Tanzania - Dar es Salaam
Today you fly to Tanzania. After arriving at the airport in Dar es Salaam you are welcomed by our local representative and accompanied to your hotel in Dar es Salaam.
Overnight: Palm Beach Hotel or similar based on bed and breakfast
Day 2 to 4 flight to Selous Game Reserve
You will be brought to the airport for your domestic flight to Selous Game Reserve.
The Selous Game Reserve covers an area of over four times the Serengeti and is nearly twice as large as the Netherlands. Its particularly unspoilt beauty and grandeur will remain in your memories. 3 days, you have the time to discover the secrets of Selous GR. From your accommodation you go on safari, on foot, by boat and by open landrover.
The park has large numbers of live elephants, hippos, lions and leopards. It is one of the last wild areas in Africa, together with the Okavango Delta and Kruger NP, which (long term) have viable populations of wild dogs. Cheetahs are also in the park, but are less common.
The Rufiji River is very rich in hippos and crocodiles. Groups of 50-100 hippos are no exception. Due to the high density of crocodiles animals are very cautious when they come to drink at the River. Nevertheless, especially in the dry season the Rufiji River attracts many animals. You make a good chance to see giraffe, eland antelope and elephant along the shore. If you're lucky, you will see lions and leopards in the morning along the sandy banks of the River.
Selous Game Reserve is also a bird paradise. There are about 370 different species of birds counted in the park. African eagles are a common sight. The beautifully colored bee-eaters, scavengers, and kingfishers you'll encounter throughout the park. If you're lucky, you'll see on a night drive the Pel's Fishing-owl (a large eagle owl).
Nights: Lake Manze Tented Camp on full board, 2 game activities per day, including walking safaris and boat trip
Lake Manze Tented Camp
The camp is located in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve in Africa and is situated on the shores of Lake Manze. During the one hour transit to the camp which can be reached from Siwandu airstrip, one is introduced to the beautiful plains of Selous and its assorted birds and wildlife. The Lake Manze area is one of the richest for game in the entire Selous, both in the dry and wet seasons.
Day 5 Flight to Ruaha N.P.After breakfast you will be brought to the airstrip and fly to Ruaha National Park. On the way to your accommodation you can make a game drive. Ruaha N.P. is a unique piece of Africa, rugged and unspoilt, situated between the rivers Njombe and Ruaha. It is a very special park with spectacular landscapes. Ruaha is located in an ecological transition zone, which is home to flora and fauna of both eastern and southern Africa. Therefore there is a huge variety of species of animals and plants. Compared to the Serengeti in Ruaha 1600 species, whereas in the Serengeti example, only 600 species are distinguished.
Overnight: Old River Mdonya full board and 2 game drives per day
Mdonya Old River
A small but great Adventure Camp , this is one of the newest and perhaps most exciting bush destinations in Tanzania. With just 11 tents, Mdonya Old River is a small camp offering a personal service tailor-made to clients' needs. And its in the best place to be - where the animals are! The tents are spread out over a large area with many shade trees.
Day 7 to 8 Ruaha N.P.
Two full days of safari in Ruaha. Lunch is taken picnic or when you return for lunch in the lodge, followed by a short siesta. The park is powered by the Ruaha River, which winds its way between jagged rock formations, forests and savannah landscapes with acacia and baobab trees. This lifeline exerts great attraction to all kinds of game. Regularly, large herds of elephant and buffalo can be seen. The rivers accommodate hundreds of crocodiles and hippos.

Day 9-12 flight to Dar es Salaam - Bagamoyo Lazy Lagoon
You fly back to Dar es Salaam and to your accommodation on the beach. Here you can relax the next 5 nights.
Bagamoyo, with beautiful, tranquil beaches north of Dar es Salaam. It is a small town where the Arab and German colonial influences still clearly can be observed. Bagamoyo means "here I put my heart", which indicates the many slaves from the in lands here left the African continent. Today, many traditional dhow boats are made here. In Bagamoyo Kaole you can visit ruins, snorkel or enjoy the sea and the local fishermen on their return with fresh catch. You will stay 5 nights at an island off the coast at Bagamoyo, where you can relax the last few days and enjoy all the impressions of the trip.
Lazy Lagoon
This idyllic exclusive island is 2km off the shore of main land Tanzania opposite the historical town of Bagamoyo, north of Dar es Salaam. A sand spit protected by a coral reef, the island is inaccessible by land at all times, thus maintaining its exclusivity to visitors to Lazy Lagoon. The coral reef surrounding the island offers a great opportunity for snorkeling off the beach.
Being an island, Lazy Lagoon is quite unique with sea swimming possible at all tides. The island has an interesting ecosystem, with many small mammals such as bush babies, (Galagoes) suni antelope and bush pig, plus birds and butterflies. Low tide washes up a plethora of exotically coloured star fish, sea urchins and crabs. All of these share their habitats with natural mangrove forest. Guests are free to wander along the 9km island – although no one has yet reached the end!
The 12 Century Kaole ruins remaining from the Arab Shirazi era with the oldest mosque on the mainland lies only 2kms across the ocean from Lazy Lagoon. The settlement went into decline two hundred years later following the disruption of Arab trading routes by the Portuguese.
Following the decline of the nearby Kaole settlement Bagamoyo grew out of the slave and ivory trade. Its was also referred to as the “gateway to the dark continent“ by explorers including Livingstone, Burton, Speke, Stanley, Grant and others who used Bagamoyo to launch their expeditions to find the source of the Nile. Livingstone’s sundried body was later carried by his two faithful servants 1600km back to Bagamoyo. Later Bagamoyo became the Capital of German East Africa.
Accommodation is in 12 large airy natural mkuti beach bandas only yards from the Indian Ocean. From the sundowner lounge above the bar, visitors can watch the sunrise over Zanzibar and set over the palm trees of Bagamoyo and feel the Swahili atmosphere as they follow the flotilla of hundreds of local fishing boats tack around the island to get from their villages on the mainland to their fishing grounds.
Individual beach cottages with en suite bathroom – shower, basin, toilet. Towels and beach towels provided. All rooms have full beach frontage, with verandah, hammock and deck chairs. The Lounge, bar, dining area is at tip of the island with views east and west. Swimming pool is available as well.
240V electricity is provided by generator for lighting and recharging of batteries. There is mobile phone reception on the island for some networks. The rooms are shady and well ventilated, but there is no air conditioning. Accommodation rates are full board including 3 meals, tea, coffee and laundry. Not included are bar drinks.

In time for your return flight to Europe, you will be transferred to the airport of Dar es Salaam.

Return to the Island of the Gods - Update
Following the reviews on the net about Siddhartha, we started to doubt our choice. Too many people reported the same 'not well run' experience. But okay, they just opened and it may improve .... ?
Than, during our stay on Filitheyo, we again started to doubt Siddhartha. The couple who is running Siddhartha used to run the dive operations in Filitheyo (both Werner Lau), so no doubts about the diving operations - fore sure that will be very well run. But .... the Siddhartha Resort is now RUN by a Dive Operations Manager. So a person who knows how to run a dive shop, but not how to run a Resort.
Lookin at all the reviews on our return our worry was, again, confirmed. Siddhartha is a beautiful place, but .... not run professionally by experienced people in the industry. And we know beauty is something, but service is everything!
Back to square one and look for an alternative: which we found quite fast. We cancelled Siddhartha (money back in the bank in a few days - as expected of a German/Swiss operation), and booked Villa Markisa.
Not only does this Resort receive excellent reviews only (not a surprise knowing that the couple running this place used to run the Pindito, the very high end liveaboard to Raja Ampat), but the also have an additional plus.
Villa Markisa is located in front a place called 'Seraya Secrets', a new discovered Much Diving Spot on Bali. And as we enjoyed Muck Diving so much in Lembeh, this was an easy choice retrospectively.

Return to the Island of the Gods
Stop Dreaming - take action
We have been to Indonesia now two times. The first time, when heading for a 'hard core' dive week in Wakatobi, we stayed at Bali at the start and end of the trip. The second time, recently, we went to Sulawesi. Both times we realy realy enjoyed ourselves, both above as well as under water.
With the above experience in mind we started to look for an offerdable combination of the above. Browsing through the options. Looking at the dive reviews at the 'known' sites. We decided to go to Bali and try the diving there.
Looking at the map of Bali there are three locations famous for diving:
A cheap flight with super service
When going to place like Indonesia and trying to minimize your expense: look for a cheap flight 1st! We found the best deal flying from Frankfurt with Malaysia Airlines (appr. the same cost of one last year, we now fly both).
Already pleasantly surprized with the super deal, we were in for another surprise: Malaysia Airlines serive. MA show on their website that one can take 10kg of diving gear for free. We had our doubts (we read reviews of people who had to pay a lot of money on their return trip), so we mailed them to verify. "Yes, you can take 15kg of diving gear for free each, just .......". When we didn't comply correctly to their request, they immediately called us the next day to explain - assuring we could enjoy their service. Two days later we received new tickets, clearly identifying 15kg aditional free dive lugage each! Wow.
1st stop in Bali: Paradise re-found
Having been to Kajane Mua in Ubud there is no other option than return when returning to Bali. So no surprise, we are returning. Just a few days of getting into the time zone, getting used to the climate and enjoying some relaxing days before heading for the dive destinations.
Lotus Bungalows
When looking at the distances between the dive sites (see above), and the time to get to the remote places from a central located hotel - 2 to 4 hrs - we concluded it was better to look for a hotel close to the dive sites, rather than spend our time stuck in traffic all day in a minibus. In the Nusa Penida area all reviews pointed at one option: Lotus Bungalows.

At the Talumben side of Bali we initially looked at Alam Anda. An hotel afiliated to Werner Lau with extremely good reviews. However, on the Werner Lau site we found that they are opening a new resort close by: Siddhartha. Not much more expensive, but by the looks of it a lot more luxurious. We expected that, knowing it is just opening now, prices will go up soon, so we thougt "let's try it now before it becomes unafordable".
It is still quite some time before we go ........ counting the days already!

Low cost Dive Holiday
A weekend with not much to do ......... but thinking of where to go next. Browsing through the offers of the travel agents. Would it be possible? One week in Egypt for the two of us at rock bottom pricing? At a good hotel? Near excellent diving locations?
And than, when finding it .......... decisions need to be made on the spot. These offers never last long! Check, check again. No, this can't be right. But every time the result confirms it is possible.
So we booked the Radisson SAS in El Quseir (again). We can't wait to see the Red Sea again :-)

Madagascar cancelled
End of last year we had it all figured out: we were going to Madagascar! The thought of seeing the Lemurs in their natural habitat. 
And what a habitat that is. Madagascar is a world on its own, and has been for millions of years. We were looking forward to new 'experience of a lifetime'. How shocking and disappointing it was to learn a few weeks later about the political roller coaster Madagascar had become. Hoping for the best we waited for the situation to calm down the next few months. But the longer we waited the more it became clear, the issues in Madagascar will not be solved overnight.
With regret in our heart we saw no other option than to cancel.
We really hope the situation in Madagascar will stabilize soon, but the the recent coop, and the fact that quite some African countries not recognizing the new, self proclaimed, president, do not point in that direction.
As the holiday was planned, and having made our decision on Madagascar, we now put our energy in finding an alternative. We thought about South Africa and returning to Mozambique, but finally decided to return to the Maldives. As our island of choice is being refurbished (and most likely will be out of our price range when completed), we looked for similar island: simple, good food, affordable, but most of all, good diving!
We hope will find exactly that when we will visit Filitheyo later this year. Looking at the picture perfect white beach with palm trees, we are sure we made a good choice!

Madagascar
Sometimes it takes a long time before a dream becomes reality. Sometimes a dream never progresses beyond being a dream. This time the dream was put to a reality quite fast.
What triggered the dream is not 100% clear. Was it the movie? Was it documentaries on National Geographic? A combination of both most likely. The lemurs in both for sure played a key role!
Inspired by the thought of seeing these groovy, wooly animals we started browsing the brochures and websites on trips to Madagascar. Eventually we found a itinerary with nice combination of site seeing and romantic relaxing at a dutch travel agent. Unfortunately for them their response was very slow (still pending actually) and most likely too expensive (based on the offers on their webpage). And, we found a local agent in Madagascar (most likely their local agent as well), who had a track record of 20 years of sustainable and award winning international tourisem in Madagascar.
They were fast and affordable, so within a week or so we booked. Another dream will be a reality.

Day 1 - Paris / Antananarivo B
Welcome at the airport on the flight from Paris on Air France. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 2 - Antananarivo / Anjozorobe BLD
In the morning, we leave for Anjozorobe primary forest (100 km - 2h30).
Arrival in Anjozorobe, one of the last vestiges of dense rainforest on the high plateaux, is a source of life for the population and harbours an enormous biodiversity: With its 11 species of lemurs (Indri, Propitecus Diadema, Microcebus…), 82 bird species (amongst which 43 are endemic), 423 plants (amongst 65% endemic), this forest is a dreamland for nature lovers and birdwatchers. BOOGIE PILGRIM has built an upmarket lodge, MANANARA LODGE, which is ready to greet guests since may 2007.

Different activities are proposed to the hotel guests such as a swimming pool, horse riding, squash, mountain bikes…
Cosy fireplace in the restaurant, overlooking a lake. Also a crocodile farm and a “lemurs island” on the site.
Day 4 - Andasibe BD
Morning to observe the fauna and flora of the Andasibe Park. We wake up early, because in the morning, lemurs are very active, and we might spot the biggest of all lemurs, the Indri-Indri..
We will also take the time to visit the private reserve of the hotel, where a traditional Betsimisaraka village has been constructed : you will learn all about the village and homes of this ethnic group of the eastern coast: the orientation of the rooms of their houses, the room of the ancestors…
Afternoon visit of the Lodge's private reserve. Night tour to spot nocturnal animals.
Day 5 - Andasibe / Antananarivo B
Drive back to Antananarivo (155 km – 03h00).

Day 6 - Antananarivo/ Diego Suarez (Antsiranana) BLD
After breakfast transfer to the airport for flight to Diego Suarez on MD314/366 07h50 – 09h55.
Full day to explore Diego and its 3 bays (with picnic lunch on the beach) : Sakalava Bay, Pigeons Bay and Dunes Bay. Of course, we will also be told about Diego’s Pirates’ History and see bay of Diego and its sugar loaf. Picnic lunch.
1 night at Hotel ALLAMANDA on halfboard.
ALLAMANDA HOTEL is located near the harbour, by the sea, 10min from city. We specially recommend for the nice sea view and the tranquillity. The 12 rooms and junior suites are in different concrete buildings, set in a tropical garden. All the rooms are comfortable but classic, with A/C, satellite TV, balcony or terrace, safe. Swimming pool, a restaurant with a seaview terrace..
Day 7 - Diego Suarez / Montagne d’Ambre BLD
Short car trip south of Diego (approx 45min), crossing Joffreville (Rest village for the French Army built in 1902) to visit Natural Park of Montagne d’Ambre: this volcanic range offers several botanical trails, crater lakes, great cascades and provides home for wildlife ranging from rare reptiles amongst which the brookesia minima the smallest chameleons, lemurs (crowned lemurs, sanford lemurs, fulvus lemurs...) and 70 species of birds. Picnic lunch.
Dinner and night at NATURE LODGE.
NATURE LODGE is a cosy lodge, full of personality 10 bungalows only, blending in the vegetation, and all overlooking Diego’s Bay and its sugar loaf. Each bungalow has a double bed, private shower and WC and balcony.

Day 8 - Ankarana BLD
3h by car to reach exceptional Park of Ankarana where we will see the famous stone formations called “ Tsingy ”. We will also discover the nearby bat filled grottos (with stalagmites and stalactites), underground rivers… During our walk, we will see Xerophyte plants such as kalanchoes, bottle-trees, euphorbias and are likely to encounter our agile fluffy friends, the lemurs! The Antakarana consider the Ankarana massif as sacred: in past, the Antakarana fleeing the Merina took refuge in the Ankarana caves and tsingy; many of their kings are buried there. Picnic lunch.
1 night on CAMPING.
Day 9 - Ankarana / Ankify / Nosy Komba BLD
Continuation of the excursion in Ankarana. Then route to Ankify. On the way, we will see coffee, cacao, ylang ylang, sugar cane and clove plantations and cross small towns of Ambilobe and Ambanja. Final destination of the day is Nosy Komba (30min by boat from Ankify).
Nosy Komba is a small volcanic island, with beautiful beaches and plenty of lemurs. If you can get out of your sun bed, follow the walking trails inland. A small paradise, a tropical island just as in your dreams! Nosy Komba is only 30 min boat from main island Nosy Be. Nosy Be is starting to get very touristic and busy: Nosy Komba is by far more tranquil and preserved.
Dinner & night at TSARA KOMBA
Tsara Komba : Only 6 spacious bungalows (75 to 95m²!) blending beautifully in a lush garden, coloured by bright purple bougainvilleas. Terrific view on the sea, beautiful and inventive decoration (precious wood, statues, canopy beds, zafimaniry chairs and chests…). A charming, luxurious, intimate and one of the most exclusive hotels in Mada. (Closed from mid January to end February).

You can visit the TANIKELY island, a protected marine reserve and a fantastic snorkelling spot: colourful corals, fish and occasionally sea turtles… A real aquarium!

Boat to the port, then transfer to the airport and flight to Tanà by MD327 17h10 - 18h40.
Transfer at RELAIS DES PLATEAUX for a dayroom. Around 22h00 transfer to the airport for the return flight to Paris on Air France.
RELAIS DES PLATEAUX Hotel is the best accommodation available around the airport. 10 rooms and 1 suite, air conditioned, with satellite TV, all ground level. A swimming pool and a restaurant in nice gardens.

Welcome to Holidays Diving Dreaming
Being Holiday and Diving addicts, we spend a lot of our time on the web finding information on locations we would like to visit. And doing so we are always very gratfull for the information people provide on their own web-sites as well as on various review sites. Now, having been to quite some nice places, we feel it's our obligation to share our experiences.
